Towards
the southern most tip of India lays the State of Kerala known
all over the world as God's Own Country. Edakochi is a small
village which is situated around the middle portion of this
beautiful state blessed with vibrant flora and fauna. Near to
the city of Kochi, (or Cochin as it was known earlier) which
is the Commercial Capital of Kerala, is situated the Church St
Lawrence at a small village called Edakochi. Cochin is know as
the Queen of the Arabian Sea and encompasses some of the old
and well preserved historic monuments in the Country.
Surrounded
by bluish backwaters, the land of Edakochi has a history
dating back to several centuries. Nature has spread its
artistic skills such that the view from the front yard of the
Church here itself is capable of lessening one's burden in
soul. The church is just 10 km away from the historic Fort
Cochin, regarded as one of the Historic Places acclaimed by
UNESCO.
The place is easily accessible by road,
water and air. The NH-47 National Highway is passing just in
front of the old Church of Edakochi. With the presence of vast
backwaters, the place can be easily approached by boats,
houseboats and yachts. Moreover, the Cochin International
Airport (CIAL) is just 30kms away from this holy pilgrim
center. People can also reach here by rail as two railway
stations, Ernakulam Junction (12kms) and Ernakulam Town (14
kms) are both adjacent easily reachable to this place.
